Report: Huawei Acquires Security Startup HexaTier for $42M

For the second time in a month, Huawei has acquired an Israel-based company, according to a news report.

Israeli publication Calcalist reports that Huawei spent $42 million to buy HexaTier, a database security startup. Reuters had previously reported that the deal was in the works.

According to the Reuters report, HexaTier had raised $14.5 million from Israeli venture capital firms including JVP, Magma, and Rhodium.

Earlier in December, Calcalist reported that Huawei had acquired Toga Networks, an IT research firm, for $150 million.

HexaTier was founded as GreenSQL in 2009, and while it was able to secure on-premises databases, its focus was databases in the cloud — what is now called database-as-a-service — with a particular emphasis on blocking SQL injection attacks, the most common form of database attack.
