Virtual Conferencing Gains Traction

Our second mini-blog will take you through the increased proliferation of virtual conferencing and the major players in this space.

Despite the world coming to a standstill due to the Coronavirus pandemic, events, conferences, seminars, and training sessions are being conducted virtually – thanks to cloud-based conferencing applications like Zoom, Google Hangouts, Microsoft Teams, WebEx, and others. Many are offering free access to ensure businesses stay connected, employees stay productive, and students continue to learn.

For instance, Google is offering free access to their advanced Google Meet video-conferencing capabilities for all G Suite and G Suite for Education customers globally until September 30, 2020. In addition, many new companies are innovating applications using AI technology, so they can track the time users spend on the online learning sessions and the type of users attending events – to help in data-driven decision-making and analytics.

Conferences are unlikely to make an appearance for an extended period of time even after the immediate conditions abate. Under those circumstances, it’s likely that new models will emerge for virtual events. These will give rise to new solutions for ticketing, identity and user management, role-based access to content, content publishing, and virtual networking.
