OpenStack Summit this year witnessed a footfall of 7500 odd participants which was an overwhelming number considering the fact that not long ago when the summit commenced for the first time; there were just 75 participants. The summit commenced with keynotes that served as food for thought ranging from Bimodal IT as the Foundation for Digital Business, Running Kubernetes on OpenStack at LivePerson to Building a SmartCity with IoT and Improving UX with OpenStackClient.
The vendor display included names like Cisco Systems, EMC, HP, IBM, Dell, Intel to name a few. OpenStack is definitely posing as the next big opportunity. The summit was a place that provided a platform to deep dive into the technology and network while learning niche and new things about developing applications in cloud and on containers by workshops or discussions. Sessions like “OpenStack Infrastructure for Beginners” were packed with no room for more attendees after a point in time.
As soon as the market place opened up to host a booth crawl; the booths set up were flooded with attendees wanting to know what was new and to collect goodies in the form of pen drives, OpenStack pods, t-shirts, etc. It was a fun filled affair which eventually helped people make friends and network to a great extent.
The technical sessions like Container Based Dynamic Service Chaining and Injection, How to Troubleshoot OpenStack without Losing Sleep, Learn You Some OpenStack for Great Good, saw great turnout with people swamping till the end of the rooms with many attendees standing for the entire session.
It definitely wasn’t just work and no play for jack, the parties hosted after long days of knowledge sharing were as much fun as you can begin to imagine! Ol’ friends, 100 beers on taps, BBQ and live musical performances nuanced any tiredness that may have set in during the day!
All in all a great summit with so much to take back personally and professionally. OpenStack was buzzing in every fibre of Austin’s convention center and I definitely look forward for this event to reach places in the future due to the nascent spirit it is conducted with every year.
