Evolved Packet Core (EPC) primarily provides IP connectivity to the terminal for both data and voice services. It is a framework that enables converged data and voice on a 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network. EPC also converges mobility and quality-of-service (QoS) management under one roof in LTE networks and is the channel through which operators can connect users to applications on the Internet or on corporate networks and in the operator’s own service delivery environment.
The key components of EPC are:
Mobility Management Entity (MME)
Packet Data Node Gateway (PGW)
Serving Gateway (SGW)
In this video, Pavan is fundamentally talking about how a packet core is deployed on cloud in an NFV system.
