Computational Storage, Cloud-first, NVMe are Talk of the Town, while Security & AI emerge as Showstoppers Under the Sun

Amid the pandemic, let’s take a look at the brighter side of what is fueling a promising growth in the Data Center space

October 2020 – San Jose, California: The world has been grappling with the pandemic for over 10 months now and this has had a profound effect on how people live and work. At Calsoft, it’s business as usual, as the company keeps a close track of areas that are displaying huge potential for growth and concurs with analysts’ predictions about the same.

Starting with the data center space, a recent report by Gartner has predicted that the data center infrastructure spending is likely to grow 6% globally in 2021 as businesses try to acclimatize to the new normal.

Cloud is also showing signs of dominating the IT space with another Gartner report forecasting worldwide public cloud revenue to grow by 6.3% and findings by research firm SRG revealing that cloud ecosystem revenues rose by 20% to USD 187 Bn in the first half of 2020, spurred on by COVID-19.

We believe All Flash, Cloud Storage, HCI, NVMe, Persistent Memory, and Computational Storage have a powerful disruptive potential for the immediate future. The global NVMe market, for instance, is projected to grow from $19.52 Bn in 2020 to $115.35 Bn by 2025, at a CAGR of 42.66% from 2020 to 2025.

On the AI front, a Gartner poll found that despite the global impact of COVID-19, 47% of AI investments were unchanged since the start of the pandemic and 30% of organizations actually planned to increase such investments. Only 16% had temporarily suspended AI investments, and just 7% had decreased them.

With regards to Security, Gartner’s Hype Cycle For Endpoint Security, 2020 found that by 2024, at least 40% of enterprises will have strategies for adopting Secure Access Service Edge (SASE), up from less than 1% at year-end 2018. In fact, at the recently concluded VMworld 2020, VMware focused on intrinsic security across the entire stack & its newly launched Carbon Black Cloud Workload. The company also took cognizance of the rising importance of digital collaboration by announcing its Future Ready Workforce solutions, which is a combination of VMware SASE, Endpoint Security & Digital Workspace capabilities designed to help IT teams manage and optimize secure access to any app, on any cloud, from any device.
